Phil was born in Borger, Texas but married a Tulsa girl. He and his wife Lisa have two grown sons and an awesome daughter-in-law. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from West Texas A&M in Communications/Music (voice).
Phil has served in ministry for several decades in various capacities and places. He traveled as a Music Evangelist for ten years, but began ministry to students in 1981, serving first in Tulsa’s Skelly Drive Baptist Church, then Castle Hills First Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas followed by ministry at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty, Missouri.
Young at heart, and wise in matters of faith, Phil is passionate about “helping people discover the awesome treasure of Jesus.” His joy is to help people discover that the point of their lives is to point to God. He loves people and he loves missions. He loves that bringing the two together grabs the heart of the participant for God!
He also loves to travel the world, getting to know people and their cultures. He has ministered in 25 countries. However, anyone who knows him knows he has a heart for the people of Romania!
Music is one hobby, including leading worship with guitar and voice. Some may be surprised to know that Phil’s experience includes doing Top 40 Radio, acting, singing before crowds of more than 15,000, and making 6 records—and he has no desire to do any of those things again. He’s met many famous people, but the meeting he most cherishes was with Billy Graham.
Phil served for many years as Evergreen’s Pastor to Students and in August of 2017 he became Evergreen’s Community Pastor.
