Why should I join a church?
First, the concept of membership is biblical.
While the term “church member” is not used in the Bible, the concept is throughout the New Testament. Believers clearly identified themselves with a specific local church and were challenged to become devoted participants.
Second, joining will help you gain a sense of ownership at Evergreen.
Our strategy and structure are designed for members to have ownership of the ministry. In a culture where so many things are competing for you and your time,
we don’t believe you are going to give much to a ministry that just has you “in the stands.” We want you “in the game.” Membership says, “I am committed to finding and doing God’s will for my life and for God’s kingdom."
Third, formal membership is valuable to the leaders of the church as they seek to fulfill their God-given task of “shepherding.”
By design, Evergreen desires to reach a large number of people from varying backgrounds. Membership allows our leaders to more quickly identify those committed to the church and its God-given vision and role. As we grow larger, it becomes increasingly important that the leadership of Evergreen is able to identify those who truly comprise the “flock.”
